Five

Its funny,

y’know.

They say you fall in love 5 times in your life.

Truly.

Deeply.

Passionately.

Only 5.

And when you’re in love its all about –

the little things.

Brief moments in time and small quirks that have you

falling,

        falling,

                falling

Until its too late and there’s no going back…

even if you want to.
I’ve found my five

and fallen hard.

Five times and each

too many ways to count.

But the least I can do is try.

One: the funny one

Sharing secret smiles…

because we’re the only ones that get it.

Eye rolls and  fond smirks…

because I should have got it,

but didn’t.

Two: the serious one

3am conversations stretched out across a pool table about:

the future

being true to yourself

difficult choices

Three: the sensitive one

Watching heartbreaking movies

box of Kleenex nearby

because we know tears are coming.

An ear to listen and a sweatshirt to cry in…

because “That’s what they’re made for.”

Four: the inspiring one

Eyes bright, grand gestures

Thoughts

Ideas

Dreams

Passionate words tumbling from a mouth that can’t stop

grinning

Five: the nerdy one

With serious conversations on updates and metabuilds.

Creating and revising strategies.

Debating min-maxing

and its effectiveness.

Always looking for another game.
So yes, its funny

One life – five times – one person

you had me falling,

                              falling,

                                      falling,

hard.
What happens now,

when I knew by the first:

it wasn’t the same for you.

In the Holiday Spirit

Daily Prompt:  The holiday season: can’t get enough of it, or can’t wait for it all to be over already? Has you attitude toward the end-of-year holidays changed over the years?

Getting Seasonal

Tiny twinkling lights
brightening gloomy winter days;
The mellow murmur of adult voices and
children’s shrieking laughter —
just a couple days away;
Smells of cookies baking
and sweets in the making
wafting through the house;
Imagining the taste of a holiday dinner —
not yet served;
Family close
warmth and happiness suffusing the air;
Friends from school
gone their separate ways
to family holidays far away;
Three weeks to miss them.

It’s a bitter sweet holiday…

I wanted to try out something a little different. I hope you enjoyed it!

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Daily Prompt: You have to write a message to someone dear to you, telling that person how much he/she means to you. However – instead of words, you can only use 5-10 objects to convey your emotions. Which objects do you choose, and what do they mean?

The Language of Things

For me deciding who I wanted to send this message to was a very difficult, but I eventually decided that I wanted to send this message to someone who I haven’t talked to for a long period of time. I met this person and middle school and became very good friends with him. We would hang out every day and always knew what was going on with the other. In high school we dated for a short period of time, but it didn’t end well and we began to drift apart. Since I entered college we have spoken very little and I have regretted letting him slip away since. So with that background information, hopefully my message will make more sense.

White Karate Belt
(When we first met we were both just lonely kids entering middle school and friendship came easy. We found our first and our best friends in each other.)

Xbox Controller
(After school was always the best part of the day. We would hang out at one of our houses sometimes doing homework and other times simply goofing off.)

Bike
(I was so lucky to be your friend. Even after we started drifting apart I knew that you were always there for me.)

Car
(I wish that we’d had another chance. That things could have ended differently and that we could have stayed friends even though dating hadn’t worked.)

Phone
(I miss you and I wish I had the courage to try to rebuild that friendship.)

So I really suppose I should leave some wise suggestions for those of you who are going through the same thing, but I don’t really have any. All I can say is hold on to the people close to you.

Thanks for reading.

No Song Left Unsung

Daily Prompt: We all have our semi-secret, less-known personal favorites – a great B-side, an early work by an artist that later became famous, an obscure (but delicious) family recipe. Share one of your unsung heroes with us – how did you discover it? Why has it stayed off everyone’s radar?

Unsung Heroes

When I read this prompt my first thought was of one of my favorite artists, Regina Spektor, an unusual name for an unusual singer. I was introduced to her by my older sister who had bought her album Far and had it playing during a long car ride. The first track I heard was “Blue Lips” a song about humanity and about life and death. Her lyrics are like poetry and the meaning behind each song an intriguing mix of “I have no idea what she’s singing about and I understand perfectly.” I couldn’t help, but want to listen to each song over and over again slowly unwrapping them to discover the message behind her words. One of my favorite lyrics of her’s is from her song “All the Row Boats” “God, I pity the violins//In glass coffins they keep coughing//They’ve forgotten, forgotten how to sing, how to sing”

I don’t quite understand why Regina Spektor is not better known though I think it might have something to do with her lyrics and her unique voice not appealing to everyone. Despite her anonymity I personally would recommend her to anyone that is looking for good music.

I know I’m posting this late, but I saw the prompt yesterday and I wanted to write it, but I didn’t get around to it so I decided to post it today.

Where to Begin?

So where should I begin? I am currently a senior in college (soon to be a super senior) and majoring in elementary and middle school education. I just recently added the middle school level and after this last semester I feel like that is exactly where I want to be.

I have a little brother, who is actually not that little anymore (6′ 2″), and an older sister both of whom are two years apart from me. Here at college I have a group of very close friends that I spend the majority of my time hanging out with, though recently our group has been growing smaller.

Overall, I am a very outgoing person and will talk to almost anyone. I love music and play several different instruments, as well as sing for my audience of one (me). I will probably also have some posts based on my nerdier hobbies, like D&D and an awesome card game called L5R.

My reason for starting this blog is to write. Purely and simply to write. My posts could be about anything from a random thought to a serious issue that I am facing. I will do my absolute best to post everyday about something interesting or at least thought-provoking, though I can’t promise that this will actually happen. I also hope to start a story here. I’m not sure what it will be about, but I really want to start writing fiction again. As for the name of my blog I thought it fit me pretty well as a person. I love talking so the answer to the question: “Any last thoughts?” is almost always yes. So this blog is kind of going to be my place to say what I don’t get the chance to say in real life.

I hope you find my blog to be an interesting read. Please send me any questions you have and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability.

Talk to you soon.
